I could visualize my progress

October 1, 2015 - By Les Enformidables

Temps de lecture 2 minutes

Shortness of breath, plantar fasciitis, joint pain, hypercholesterolemia, etc.; the diagnosis was pretty bleak. To top it off, I had a hard time tying my own shoes or finding clothes that fit.

I had had enough with the consequences of being overweight. I had unsuccessfully tried losing weight by walking and following Canada’s Food Guide, and I needed a real solution. A television advertisement of people’s physical transformations caught my attention. I signed up for a membership at this fitness centre with the conviction that this was exactly what I needed, and it proved to be true. I had a wonderful trainer-nutritionist team to back me up. They created a plan adapted to my physical condition and my injuries. I first signed up for a 6-month transformation plan, with 40 pounds to lose. With encouragement from my coaches, I was able to stay motivated throughout this period. The impedance tests also contributed greatly to my motivation. These tests are much better than a simple scale, as they allow you to track changes in your body composition. They enabled me to visualize how much fat I was losing and how much muscle I was building, and this was the best source of motivation for me.

Results: through lots of efforts and tenacity, I was able to rise beyond the challenge, as I still exercise to this day. One year after starting the program, I have lost 46 pounds. My hypercholesterolemia medication has been lowered, and I dropped 3 dress sizes. I am bursting with energy and proud of my success. Now, my new challenge consists of maintaining my new habits and avoiding any excess, one day at a time.
