Staying in shape has always been important to me, as I have to use a wheelchair on a daily basis. I’ve always strived to maintain some kind of balance in my life. I’ve been playing wheelchair basketball for 12 years now.
To keep competing at elite levels, I had to lose weight. Being overweight was taking a toll on me; I was always out of breath, and people were starting to tease me about it. I had a pretty active social life, so I was able to deal with it until I started to question my health condition. I noticed physical changes in my body. I was ripe to get back in shape, which I did with the help of a trainer and a nutritionist. I know this is an ongoing process that never ends, but the important part is that I have regained my self-confidence.
