Is it because I am on the verge of turning forty? Or did I have to meet someone to make me realize that I’m not comfortable in my own body? Probably both. Regardless of the reason, I decided to get back in shape.
I had made my mind about it and was really motivated. I’d had enough, enough of not being able to climb hills with my husband when we went hiking, or not being able to enjoy a day of snowboarding because I wasn’t supple enough, or even having to use the elevator at the office because the stairs left me out of breath. I couldn’t even wear the clothes I liked.
In June 2014, everything fell into place in my mind. I decided to get in shape and transform myself. Since then, I have never stopped, and have always maintained the same intensity! It’s hard to believe that only a few years ago, I was spectator at a half-marathon to cheer one of my friends, and that when I saw the runners going past me, I thought they were so courageous, and even a little crazy for running such an insane distance! I am now one of those loonies who can easily cover the mileage. If you had asked me back then, I wouldn’t even have thought this was possible!
My habits have changed. I no longer drive when I can use my bike instead. My small runs are now anywhere between 7 to 10 kilometers; only two years ago, I could barely run for more than two minutes! I now enjoy sports I wouldn’t even have dreamed about, such as Crossfit and cardio-boxing, and I love it! I also compete in X-Man races. The best part is that I can now go shopping in any store I want, as all clothes fit me!
I am also teaching my daughters, who are both 4 years old, that being healthy means eating nutritious foods and being active. The three of us train every Saturday; they go to their karate class, while I enjoy some cardio-boxing.
