In a society with more and more overweight people, many companies are now targeting fats to market their products. Light foods are now in! But should we completely eliminate fats from our nutrition?
If I were to tell you that your body needs fat for optimal functioning, would you believe me? In fact, a balanced nutrition should provide 20 % to 30 % of calories from fats. They have the advantage of favouring the feeling of satiety, which helps you fight cravings. However, you have to choose the right fats!
Healthy fats, also known as mono and polyunsaturated fats, have an anti-inflammatory effect on the body. They help reduce LDL levels (bad cholesterol) and raise HDL levels (good cholesterol). That is to say, they help prevent cardiovascular disease!
These healthy fats are found in different foods that you would benefit from adding to your daily nutrition:
Vegetable oils
Olive oil, as well as sunflower oil, should be preferred for cooking. Flaxseed and nut oils, which should not be heated, can be added to salads to enhance flavour.
Nuts and seeds
When eaten in moderation, they are rich in fibre, antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. For your snack, eat 2 tablespoons of natural nuts with a fruit, you’ll be delighted!
Avocado
Rich in vitamin E and monounsaturated fat, avocado is a real health mine!
Fish
Its reputation is already proven; have fun preparing it in different ways to enjoy it fully.
Duck
Duck fat is rich in monounsaturated fat, and can therefore be used for cooking.
I suggest that you drop light products and opt for products containing healthy fats, so that you can provide your body with a maximum of nutritive elements. Simply adjust the quantity you ingest!
